Charles Dela Cruz, MD, PhD, associate professor of medicine (pulmonary, critical care & sleep medicine) has been elected to the American Society for Clinical Investigation (ASCI), which supports the scientific efforts, educational needs, and clinical aspirations of physician-scientists.

The council considered 227 nominations and recommended 95 nominees for election. Dela Cruz is among the new members from 46 different institutions who represent excellence across the breadth of academic medicine.

The ASCI also recognized Lauren Ferrante, MD, MHS, assistant professor of medicine (pulmonary, critical care & sleep medicine), as a 2022 ASCI Young Physician Scientist. The ASCI Council Young Physician-Scientist Awards (YPSA) recognize physician-scientists who are in their first faculty appointment and have made notable achievements in their research.

Dela Cruz will be officially inducted into the society at the ASCI Dinner and New Member Induction Ceremony, April 8, 2022, as part of the AAP/ASCI/APSA Joint Meeting, April 8-10 in Chicago. Ferrante and the YPSA recipients also attend the meeting, where they gain experience through leadership development workshops, topical panel discussions with ASCI members, peer review groups and virtual poster sessions.
