The COVID-19 crisis has put a significant strain on the U.S. healthcare system and the availability of essential personal protective equipment (PPE) for healthcare workers. The Coalition for Health Innovation in Medical Emergencies (CHIME) has been rapidly generating, evaluating, and testing ideas in several key areas: face masks, ventilation, and sterilization techniques. The coalition, which includes experts in engineering, public health, nursing, medicine, and design, was formed to take advantage of the diverse range of expertise at Yale. Faculty across Yale, including at the School of Medicine, School of Nursing, School of Public Health, School of Engineering & Applied Science and Faculty of Arts and Sciences are actively engaged in research, innovation, and clinical efforts to combat COVID-19.
