Arthur Blank Jr., MD, a former Yale Department of Psychiatry resident, has been appointed to the Secretary of Veterans Affairs Advisory Committee on the Readjustment of Veterans in Washington, DC.

According to its charter, the committee’s general purpose is to advise the Department of Veterans Affairs regarding the benefits and services related to veterans’ post-war readjustment to civilian life.

Specific areas of concern are veterans’ military-related social and psychological readjustment problems, including Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD), alcoholism and other substance abuse, PTSD compensation and pension issues, and post-war employment and family adjustment.

Blank, who worked at the VA Connecticut Healthcare System in West Haven and the Yale Psychiatric Institute while at Yale, continues in private practice of psychoanalysis and psychiatry in Chevy Chase, MD.

He is co-chairing a multidisciplinary conference, “Listening to Trauma: Insights & Actions,” at The George Washington University in Washington, DC, on October 20-22, 2016. The conference will address the effects of severe psychological trauma on people and society.
