A New Name for HCFA

In an effort for reflect a new culture of responsiveness at the Health Care Financing Administration (HCFA), the agency is getting a new name. HCFA is now known as the Center for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS). Along with the name change, an organizational change will separate the agency into three centers of service:

• The Center for Beneficiary Choice (Medicare Choice +)
• The Center for Medicare Management (Fee for service)
• The Center for Medicaid and State Operations (Medicaid, SCHIP, insurance regulations)
