New Faces in the Compliance Office!

The Yale Faculty Practice Compliance Office hired five medical billing chart auditors on 7/1/99. This brings the audit staff to a total of six in addition to the Compliance Officer and an Administrative Assistant. The auditors will conduct compliance audits and assist in physician educational training. Each auditor was assigned specific departments based on their previous expertise and/or to create an even distribution of the number of clinically active physicians. The auditors will be frequent visitors in the clinical departments as they familiarize themselves with the internal operation of each area, conduct audits and serve as a resource to the departments. The new auditors and the departments they've been assigned are as follows:

• Diagnostic Radiology, Laboratory Medicine, Ophthalmology, Pathology, Therapeutic Radiology - Corrine Gray, CPC, (737- 5536) former Clinical Practice Specialist and medical billing compliance auditor for the departments of Pathology and Orthopedics
• Neurology, Neurosurgery, Orthopedics, Surgery- Kathleen Kowalchik, R.N., CPC (737-6003) former Reimbursement Manager for OPS and Clinical Practice Specialist and medical billing compliance auditor for the Department of Surgery
• Internal Medicine (Cardiology, Hematology, Infectious Disease, Oncology, Pulmonary), Psychiatry - Ellen McGuire, R.T., L.P.N., CPC, (737-5694) former Clinical Practice Specialist, Managed Care Coordinator, and medical billing compliance auditor for the Department of Neurosurgery
• Child Study Center, Dermatology, Pediatrics - Jill Scognamillo, CPC, (737-5986) former Financial Analyst in the Office of Professional Services
• Anesthesiology, Genetics, OB-Gyn - Pat Waleski, (737-4053) medical billing compliance auditor since October of 1998 and former Medicare Part B employee with 15 years experience in claims, medical review, and pricing.
• Internal Medicine (Aids, Allergy, Digestive Disease, Endocrinology, General, Geriatrics, Nephrology, Neurology, Occupational, Rheumatology), Psychiatry - Ethel (Lynn) Wynn, CPC, (737-5084) former Auditor II, Office of Professional Services, over 20 years employment at Aetna Health Plans with 11 years spent in the health care fraud and abuse investigation field.
