Downtown Crossing Phase 2 Road Construction Is Beginning

July 25, 2019

On Monday, July 22, 2019, ground was officially broken for the construction of New Haven Downtown Crossing Phase 2, which will reconnect Orange Street to South Orange Street with an at-grade intersection across the Route 34 corridor. The project is planned to be completed in summer 2021.

It is planned that the first year of the work, especially from now through November (when work will stop for the cold-weather months) will not cause significant traffic impacts.

Delays during second year will be more extensive, including a detour around a portion of South Orange Street. Click here for detailed renderings of the various stages of construction.

As the project moves forward, we will post announcements about its progress, including travel recommendations as needed. You also can receive the latest information by signing up for email updates here.

This is the project’s home page, through which you can reach the above links, contact the project managers, and find additional information about the multi-phase Downtown Crossing project, including its history and planned benefits.
