- 00:00Cervical cancer is a gynaecologic
- 00:03malignancy where women are affected
- 00:05by a cancerous growth on their cervix
- 00:08and it's unfortunately the third most
- 00:11common gynaecologic malignancy that we
- 00:13see and trade in the United States.
- 00:22Women who have multiple
- 00:24sexual partners and who have
- 00:27more exposure to HPV virus are
- 00:30higher risk for cervical cancer.
- 00:33Also, the women with less health
- 00:36compliance and health literacy are at
- 00:39increased risk for cervical cancer.
- 00:47The solution to preventing
- 00:49cervical cancer comes from health
- 00:51compliance and cervical screening,
- 00:52which might be employed in one or many ways.
- 00:56The most common way that we do use in
- 00:59the United States is cervical cytology,
- 01:02meaning cervical pap smears when
- 01:04women present to their annual
- 01:06exams to see their gynecologists.
- 01:08They get the pop smear from the cervix,
- 01:11which can detect precancerous
- 01:13cells and give us a latency, or.
- 01:16You know window where we can
- 01:18intervene and prevent these cancers?
- 01:24There are many advances,
- 01:26both prevention and therapeutic
- 01:28phases of cervical cancer.
- 01:30The one that we are most excited about
- 01:33as far as Preventionist concern is
- 01:36the prophylactic vaccinations that
- 01:39we have been fortunate enough to use
- 01:42in the US for a decade or over now,
- 01:46and these vaccinations are extremely
- 01:48efficacious since they give the human
- 01:51immunity against the most commonly.
- 01:53Seen HPV virus types and therefore
- 01:56we can easily prevent this cancer
- 01:58in young women by oxygenating them.
