Biography

Dr. Swartzwelter is a Postdoctoral Associate in the lab of Mengfei Liu where he studies alcohol-associated liver disease, particularly in the context of inflammation. Dr. Swartzwelter's career began in the lab of Charles Dinarello where he investigated the therapeutic potential of biologics that inhibit both IL-1 family members and the NLRP3 inflammasome. He completed his PhD in the Diana Boraschi lab as a Marie Curie Fellow through the Italian National Research Council in Naples, Italy, while enrolled at the University of Salzburg. While there he studied inflammatory responses to nanoparticles. Prior to his time at Yale Dr. Swartzwelter completed a postdoctoral fellowship at Colorado State University in the lab of Gregg Dean and Allison Vilander, helping design probiotic vaccines against rotavirus and west nile virus.
