New Advanced Diagnostic Tests Lab to Perform, Interpret Clinical-grade Molecular Testing of Biomarkers

November 28, 2023

A New Unit of Yale Pathology Laboratories

The Yale Advanced Diagnostic Tests Laboratory (ADT) in the Department of Pathology is a new unit of Yale Pathology Labs (YPL). The laboratory provides access to novel molecular tests to external users, performing and interpreting clinical grade and high-quality molecular analysis of human tissue samples. Its major goal is to provide early access to more advanced molecular biomarkers to the community under clinical-grade conditions.

The ADT Lab primarily focuses on:

  • Tissue samples and spatial biomarkers
  • Immunology/immuno-oncology
  • Multiplex protein and nucleic acid analysis
  • Tumor genomics/transcriptomics
  • Specialized reporting

The clinical director of the ADT Lab is Kurt Schalper MD, PhD, associate professor of pathology; Director, Translational Immuno-oncology Laboratory; and the clinical co-director is David Rimm, MD, PhD, Anthony N. Brady Professor of Pathology and professor of medicine (medical oncology); Director, Yale Cancer Center Tissue Microarray Facility; Director, Yale Pathology Tissue Services; and Director, Physician Scientist Training Program.

The Lab will fill out its roster with additional lab assistants and a bioinformatics specialist. The ADT Lab offers broad clinical and academic experience, as well as a track record of productivity and excellence with over 500 peer-reviewed papers among its members. It also offers specific expertise in several areas including:

  • CLIA Laboratory & assay validation
  • Expertise in spatial biology and biomarkers
  • Multiple tissue analysis platforms
  • Tissue diagnostics and molecular pathology
  • Morphology, IHC and data interpretation
  • Digital pathology resources

The lab has a list of analytically validated and optimized multiplex molecular tissue tests, such as multiplex immunofluorescence panels with quantitative output, and access to automated platforms to perform characterization of tumor cells and quantify and evaluate the immune response in the different subpopulations of immune cells. For more information, contact Lab Director Adam Ducler, PhD, at the ADT Lab.
