The Paul Calabresi, MD, Memorial Lectureship began in 2006 to honor Yale’s first chief of medical oncology who is often regarded as ‘a statesman of oncology.’ Dr. Calabresi was an internationally-recognized authority and pioneer on the clinical pharmacology of anti-cancer agents, and was an early supporter of combination chemotherapy as well as combined modality therapy, intertwining surgery and radiation therapy with chemotherapy in a safe and effective fashion.

Dr. Jänne's main research interests include studying the therapeutic relevance of oncogenic alterations in lung cancer. He was one of the co-discoverers of epidermal growth factor receptor (EGFR) mutations and has led the development of therapeutic strategies for patients with EGFR mutant lung cancer. His clinical interests include epidermal growth factor receptor targeted therapies for lung cancer.
