Residency Programs Encourage Collaboration with Clinical-Pathologic Conference

1 Minute Read

Residents of Radiology and Biomedical Imaging, Pathology, and Internal Medicine held their first Clinical-Pathologic Consensus Conference on Jan. 15, 2026, to help doctors from different specialties learn from each other by working together and talking. The multidisciplinary conference featured representatives from each residency program presenting and discussing a case that went to autopsy.

Among the attendees were Susan F. Ely, MD, MPHTM, associate professor of pathology and director of Autopsy Service, and Mark David Siegel, MD, professor of medicine (pulmonary) and program director, Internal Medicine Traditional Residency Program.

“It was a fantastic conference, and I’m sure the residents who joined us would agree,” Siegel said.

“I thought this inaugural multidisciplinary effort was a smashing success,” Ely said. “It was quite evident to all who attended that the chiefs and presenters spent significant time planning and preparing for this. As a result, the discussion, I believe, was equal parts engaging and fruitful for everyone involved in this patient’s care.”

Residents who attended noted the value of services working together to give a complete picture of what was a sad, but informative case. Residents said they are looking forward to their next consensus conference.
