Meeting the Complexities of Adolescent Mental Health

In partnership with the Yale Department of Psychiatry, the Yale Child Study Center (YCSC) offered an inaugural educational day focused on working with teens with depression, suicidality, and other high-risk presentations. The event was presented at no cost via Zoom on Saturday, November 5, 2022. The complete agenda for the day is provided below, and a recording will be available soon.

Throughout the COVID-19 pandemic, school mental health providers have experienced first-hand the significant impact on their students’ mental health. As front-line providers in the educational systems, school-based mental health providers are often the first to see these concerns, and can be responsible for identifying, referring, and even treating these students. One of the most challenging parts of being on the mental health front lines occur when multiple presenting concerns surface. The goal of the virtual forum is to provide a resource to providers supporting these students.

The event included talks from leading experts in depression, suicide, self-harm, eating disorders, and gender dysphoria, among other co-occurring mental health concerns. The aim was to equip providers with ongoing training and education in working with students with these complex presentations. In addition to the educational materials provided, information was shared regarding ongoing resources that may be helpful to providers, including ongoing clinical and research trials.
