Child Study Center Compassionate Care Rounds: "Agreeing to Disagree: Ethical Imperatives and Realities when Confronting Substandard Care"
The parents of children with severe neuropsychiatric disorders are frequently faced with the daunting challenge of obtaining scientifically-sound, evidenced-based psychiatric services, as well as coordinating the various mental health and educational professionals involved in their child’s care. This Compassionate Care Rounds provides a case example of the ethical dilemmas encountered by an inpatient psychiatric team caring for a child and family with complex psychiatric needs and the advocacy roles that the inpatient team members assumed in supporting the child and family.
