Zagster bike-share program up and running

July 20, 2014

50 shared-use bicycles have been made available to the Yale community through the university's partnership with Zagster, which provides city cruiser-style bicycles, registration and reservation software and maintenance services.

The program works very much the same way as Zipcar:

  • Register with Zagster with your valid Yale email address
  • Reserve via Zagster's mobile site, or by texting Zagster from the bike’s location
  • Return the bike to the same location from which you picked it up
  • Membership fees are $30/year. Members will be reimbursed $20 of the fee if they take the Bike Safety class offered by Yale Environmental Health and Safety. Rentals are free for the first four(4) hours and $3/hour for each additional hour, up to a daily rate of $24.

The bikes are available in 10 locations conveniently located across the Central and Medical School campuses. Click here to view the locations of each “pod” of bicycles. To register, you need to provide a credit card and a mobile phone number, in addition to your valid Yale email address.

Yale bikesharing was piloted for a 6-month period, and was determined to be a great addition to the menu of campus mobility options. Yale Transportation Options will be working with Zagster to obtain and analyze program usage data. Please provide feedback on locations and any other aspect of the program by emailing info@zagster.com.
