Child Study Center Grand Rounds: When it isn't autism: Differences in patient and provider perspective

As the neurodiversity movement has grown over the past 20 years, clinicians and researchers may be questioning how autism spectrum disorder is conceptualized and identified by professionals and non-professionals. Importantly, professionals need to understand the issues surrounding diagnosis and appropriate treatment of ASD and associated comorbidities. Further, learning how to think and talk together about the meaning of the diagnosis to the patient and family will enhance and deepen the treatment.
