Overview
Tracy Rabin, MD, SM, is an internist and pediatrician who cares for adult primary care patients and draws from her experience working in Uganda. “I am particularly attuned to the problem of poor access to healthcare for patients with diseases such as hypertension and diabetes,” says Dr. Rabin.
In addition to her general clinical work, Dr. Rabin directs the interprofessional diabetes clinic within the Yale Primary Care Internal Medicine residency practice. The referral clinic is for patients who need help with diabetes management, she says. It takes a multidisciplinary team approach that includes physicians, a nutritionist and a pharmacist. When it comes to comforting new patients in the clinic, Dr. Rabin tells them that a medical diagnosis does not “define who you are as a person. It is important for us to talk about how it affects your life and your family’s life.”
Dr. Rabin is an associate professor of medicine (general medicine) at Yale School of Medicine, as well as director of the Office of Global Health in the Department of Internal Medicine.
