Biography

Bryan Kerner, DO, is an Assistant Professor of Anesthesiology at Yale University School of Medicine on the Academic Clinician Track. He is a practicing anesthesiologist with clinical expertise in regional anesthesia, perioperative quality and safety, and enhanced recovery pathways. Dr. Kerner holds leadership roles across the Yale New Haven Health System, including Director of Regional Anesthesia at Bridgeport Hospital and Medical Director of the Milford Campus.

As the inaugural Director of Regional Anesthesia at Bridgeport Hospital, Dr. Kerner designed, implemented, and scaled a comprehensive regional anesthesia program that standardized care delivery, expanded access to advanced analgesic techniques, and improved patient-centered outcomes across inpatient and ambulatory settings. His work includes development of system-wide quality dashboards, standardized protocols, and post-procedure follow-up processes, as well as leadership in Enhanced Recovery After Surgery (ERAS) pathways for colorectal surgery, mastectomy, lumbar fusion spine surgery, and total shoulder arthroplasty. He has also played a key role in system-level patient safety initiatives, including redesign of regional anesthesia time-out processes following serious safety events and participation in regulatory response and corrective action planning.

Dr. Kerner maintains an active commitment to education and faculty development. He provides instruction and mentorship in regional anesthesia techniques for physician faculty, trainees, and perioperative staff. He is a longitudinal mentor to aspiring anesthesiologists through the American Society of Anesthesiologists Mentoring Program, the Yale FORCE initiative, and the Dr. Kiran C. Patel College of Osteopathic Medicine at Nova Southeastern University Mentorship Program.

In addition to his academic and clinical roles, Dr. Kerner contributes to community education and public outreach. He was featured as a subject matter expert on Your Healthcare, a Connecticut Public Television program, where he provided education on anesthesia care and the perioperative patient experience, with the goal of improving public understanding and reducing patient anxiety surrounding surgery.

His scholarly interests focus on regional anesthesia, patient safety, and perioperative care of older adults. Dr. Kerner has presented nationally on anesthesia-related safety topics and has an invited educational article approved for publication in the Society for the Advancement of Geriatric Anesthesia (SAGA) newsletter entitled Regional Anesthesia in the Geriatric Population. He also serves on national committees within the American Osteopathic College of Anesthesologists, contributing to strategic planning and advocacy efforts within the specialty.
