Biography

Marianne Bassing, MA, serves as a postgraduate associate at the YCSC, having joined the Cha Lab on June 1, 2025. She earned her master's degree from Teachers College (TC), Columbia University in May 2025. During her time at TC, Marianne was a research assistant for Dr. George A. Bonanno's, in the Loss Trauma and Emotion Lab, focusing on how family dynamics impact individual responses to stress and adversity. Additionally, she worked with Dr. Christine Cha in the Laboratory for Clinical and Developmental Studies investigating pre-teen and adolescent perceptions of death and suicide. Her primary research interests focus on transdiagnostic protective factors that may encourage individuals to adapt and persevere through adversity. Additionally, she is interested in investigating cognitive mechanisms—such as goal setting and motivation—that may be used as intervention targets for youth experiencing mental health challenges.
