Yale developmental science summer internship opens to undergrad applicants December 15

December 12, 2024

Each year, an eight-week summer internship for rising junior and senior undergraduate students is offered at the Yale Child Study Center (YCSC), in partnership with the Department of Pediatrics. Internship placements span all areas of child health, both physical and behavioral.

Applications will open for the summer of 2025 on December 15, 2024, with a submission deadline of January 31, 2025—and two information sessions will be held virtually for interested students to learn more, one on December 20 and a second on January 17.

This research-intensive internship is co-directed by Amanda Dettmer, Vince Faustino, Linda Mayes, and Helena Rutherford, with Kathy Ayala as assistant director. The program embeds students in projects ranging from basic and applied science to community-based research projects to clinical settings, incorporating methods including analysis of archived data sets, wet lab techniques, and clinical observations.

Fields of study include and cut across neuroscience, developmental, and clinical areas integral to YCSC and Pediatrics. Theses summer internships are for 40 hours per week, and in addition to their research, interns attend lectures and seminars where they are exposed to other areas of child health beyond the scope of their lab as well as skills and careers sessions and journal clubs.

To be eligible to apply, candidates must be a junior or senior undergraduate student as of Fall 2024, and a U.S. Citizen or an international student currently enrolled in a U.S. undergraduate degree-granting institution. Additional details and application instructions are available on the program website, and questions can be sent via e-mail to Linda Isakson.
