Overview
Deepa Jayaram, MBBS (a medical degree awarded outside the U.S.), is a nephrologist who cares for people with kidney diseases. She emphasizes empathy in her practice, dedicating time to listening to and addressing her patients’ concerns, particularly for those facing chronic kidney disease.
As an assistant professor of medicine (nephrology) at Yale School of Medicine, Dr. Jayaram promotes preventive care by encouraging early diagnosis and raising awareness about kidney health. She also focuses on managing complex conditions such as glomerulonephritis (a type of kidney disease marked by inflammation in the kidneys’ filtering units), diabetic kidney disease, and post–acute kidney injury, to help reduce progression to chronic kidney disease.
Dr. Jayaram received her medical degree from Seth G.S. Medical College, Mumbai University in India, before completing her residency in internal medicine at Michael Reese Hospital and Medical Center/University of Illinois. She then pursued a fellowship in nephrology at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center, Harvard Medical School, and an additional fellowship in transplant nephrology at the University of Michigan.
