Biography

Zaid N. Safiullah, MD, MHSc, is an aspiring critical care cardiologist and physician-scientist. He completed his internal medicine residency at the Johns Hopkins Hospital, followed by a critical care medicine fellowship at the NIH Clinical Center, and is currently a cardiovascular medicine fellow at Yale. His current translational research focuses on leveraging donor-derived cell-free DNA as a biomarker to detect and risk-stratify acute rejection after cardiac transplantation; the pathophysiology of septic cardiomyopathy, and the role of neutrophil extracellular traps in pulmonary arterial hypertension. Looking ahead, he aims to lead biomarker-driven, pragmatic clinical trials in the cardiac intensive care unit. He is board certified in both internal medicine and critical care medicine. Dr. Safiullah also serves as teaching faculty for the Fundamentals of Mechanical Ventilation international course and is involved in the American College of Cardiology's Critical Care Cardiology Member Section.
