Sreya Devarakonda

Biography

Sreya is a current undergraduate student at the University of Pittsburgh. She is majoring in Neuroscience, minoring in Sociology and Chemistry, and pursuing an Asian Studies Certificate. With a particular interest in neuroscience and medicine since a young age, she aspired to be a Pediatric Neurosurgeon from the age of eight. This keen interest translated into creating a Neurology Club in high school where she met Sara Schaefer, MD, MHS. After completing high school, she and Dr. Schaefer launched their brainchild, The Grey Matter Project, a global network of high school neurology clubs (inspired by her own) across the United States, where she serves as Founder and Co-Director. Additionally, she has built an ML algorithm that processes retinal fundoscopy images and can diagnose patients with a variety of ocular disorders. Sreya is currently involved with a Parkinson's lab, looking into the gut-brain barrier and its implications in possibly diagnosing Parkinson's at earlier stages. She is also involved in clinical trial research, specializing in neuro-oncology. Namely, looking at underserved populations, symptom burden, and emerging technology in treating GBMs. Overall, she hopes to aid her community in as many ways as possible, with a high passion for serving those around her and applying her knowledge and past experiences to practical situations.
