Biography
Academically, Dr. Cahill specializes in developing and innovating Learning Healthcare Systems that support translational research (from the level of neurobiological to social systems). He has experience spanning EEG biomarker development, informatics implementation and building cultures of learning and improvement within clinical services.
He undertook medical school and a PhD (in translational methodologies in psychiatric research) in the UK. At Yale he undertook psychiatry residency and then a clinical research fellowship in psychotic disorders. He is board certified in Psychiatry and Addiction Medicine. Clinically, he specializes in the complex interaction of severe mental illness with co-occurring substance use disorders and/or developmental differences. He has experience in community psychiatry in both the US and UK. His work is founded on respect for the patient and caregiver experience, judicious prescribing practices and addressing the whole person in the context of the complex systems in which we all operate.
His teaching interests surround therapeutic prescribing practices, professional development and identity and knowledge generation and translation. He is core faculty at the Yale Department of Psychiatry Residency Program and courtesy faculty at Yale School of Nursing.
