Jocelyn Dorney

Jocelyn Dorney, BA, MPH candidate, is an Elevate Fellow for Summer and Fall 2020 and Spring 2021. She is a 2nd year Masters student at the Yale School of Public Health where she concentrates in Health Policy. Her primary role will be assisting policy creation and advancement working closely with Caroline Simmons, the Senior Specialist for Policy Innovation and Impact at Elevate. Jocelyn has previously worked at the Center for Food Allergy and Asthma Research at Northwestern Feinberg School of Medicine researching vulnerable populations accessing care as well as Yale’s Interdisciplinary Center of Bioethics as a student program manager and researcher. Jocelyn earned her undergraduate degree from Yale University in the History of Science, Medicine, and Public Health, a major that teaches students to understand the American medical system from its origins and engage with historical materials that expose the institutionalized racist, sexist, classist, and homophobic practices within the medical field. Her thesis project examined unethical medical practices within female prisons during the 1970s and the continuing of those unethical behaviors into the present day. She is invested in improving the economic mobility of formerly incarcerated populations as well as creating social structures that provide mental health treatment for those populations.
