Biography

Jen Picagli, APRN, works in neurology on the New Haven campuses. She returned to Yale-New Haven Health in 2018 after earning her MSN at Yale and working in short- and long-term care in the community. As such, she is interested in the continuity of care of people with neurologic conditions from onset and presentation in the Emergency Department to inpatient care to rehabilitation and/or return home.

After almost seven years in Vascular Neurology (stroke), she now works as an inpatient liaison for Neurosurgery and Neuro-Oncology. team at Yale and YNHH on pre-hospital stroke scales, tobacco use, and nursing education. Her research interests include cognition and psychosocial components of healthcare, patient education, and socioeconomic influence on health behaviors. She is also involved in emergency preparedness in the community.

Overview

Jennifer Picagli, MSN, APRN, specializes in neurology. She works as an inpatient liasion between the divisions of Neuro-Oncology and Neurosurgery, assisting in patient management from early diagnosis through the perioperative period and, if needed, subsequent inpatient treatment. A major focus of her work is patient education, working to ensure a smooth transition from hospital care to daily life.

Picagli’s research interests include developing effective patient education and communication strategies and investigating how social and financial circumstances affect health choices. Previous research in vascular neurology included work on external causes of inflammation and abnormal blood clotting. She is also involved in community efforts for individual emergency preparedness and harm reduction.
