Yale Child Study Center Grand Rounds

A weekly forum for Yale Child Study Center (YCSC) faculty, staff, trainees, and affiliates, grand rounds sessions offer multidisciplinary opportunities to come together and learn about a variety of topics relevant to the mental health of children, adolescents, families, and communities. YCSC has the oldest grand rounds series exclusively dedicated to topics in child psychiatry and allied disciplines. Topics range from the molecular to the societal and all points in between. Presenters have a wide array of professional backgrounds and expertise.

In addition to the special lectures that are typically part of our grand rounds, some regular themes include the following:

  • Child-Centered Innovation to Impact (CCII) Rounds: A team speaker series featuring experts from across YCSC programs. These sessions provide a tangible glimpse into translating youth mental health-focused scientific discoveries into the real-world—be it through patient care or policy. Each talk showcases how YCSC embodies synergy between science and real-world change.
  • Compassionate Care Rounds: A forum for caregivers from diverse disciplines to discuss some of the emotional and social challenges inherent to patient care. The roles of teamwork and patient-family communication in enhancing quality of care are also explored. These rounds are intended to promote compassionate healthcare so that patients and their professional caregivers relate to one another in a way that provides hope to the patient, support to caregivers, and sustenance to the healing process.
  • Health Equity Rounds: Adapted from a format developed at Massachusetts General Hospital, Health Equity Rounds (HER) focus on how discrimination can affect patient care and address access to care for all. Using de-identified case studies, a goal of these sessions is to keep YCSC clinicians attuned to and respectful of one another, in the workplace and in clinical encounters.

Grand rounds session dates are typically added to our web calendar for the academic year on an annual basis each summer, with details added as they are confirmed.
