Educator Workshops & Professional Development

Training and professional development offerings for educators and school administrators are available through several sections and programs within Yale Child Study Center. This includes training for early childhood professionals and students, as well as specialized workshops for K-12 educators and administrators. These opportunities are summarized below, with links to learn more about current offerings and related costs.

  • Climate of Healthy Interactions for Learning & Development (CHILD) Training & Coaching

    CHILD is a research-based, evidence-informed framework for assessing and supporting the ways in which adults promote the well-being and holistic development of young children. Virtual and in-person training and coaching focused on the CHILD tool and its applications in early childhood settings are available for individuals and agencies, in addition to on-going support and consultation.   • Comer School Development Program (SDP) Professional Development

    Customized professional development experiences for pre-K to grade 12 educators at the school and district levels are available through Comer SDP. Consultation is provided through site visits, classroom walkthroughs and observations, teacher or principal coaching, demonstration sessions, and other services tailored to meet the specific needs of school communities.   • Managing Emotions in Times of Uncertainty & Stress Course

    This 10-hour course was designed by faculty at Yale Center for Emotional Intelligence to help school staff better manage their emotions and create supportive learning environments for students. A module including an introduction to social emotional learning and why emotions matter is offered to the public for free through Coursera. State-specific versions are also available to educators and other school personnel in Connecticut and Rhode Island.   • Mental Health & Wellness Workshops

    A variety of virtual and in-person mental health and wellness workshop offerings are available for school personnel, communities, or parents and families through a YCSC satellite location in Westport, Connecticut. These professional development opportunities can be adapted and individualized based on the needs of the participants.   • RULER Training for Educators on Emotional Intelligence

    RULER is a professional development offering created at Yale Center for Emotional Intelligence to support school communities in understanding the value of emotions, building emotion skills, and creating and maintaining positive climates in schools. Designed for PreK through grade 12 settings, it combines adult learning with a classroom curriculum that builds emotional intelligence across school communities.   • Emotionally Intelligent Leadership: Pathway to Educator Well-Being & Engagement

    This annual symposium supports district and school-level administrators in cultivating emotional intelligence, well-being, and positive and engaging environments within their school or district communities.
