Biography

Dr Agampodi has been an Assistant Professor, Adjunct at the Department of Internal Medicine since 2021. Before this appointment, he served as a Visiting Research Scientist at Yale School of Medicine (2019-2021). He is a Research Scientist at International Vaccine Institute in Seoul, Korea. He earned his medical degree from the University of Peradeniya, Sri Lanka. He completed his internship at Sri Jayawardanapura General Hospital, Sri Lanka before he was appointed as a primary care physician. He went on to complete training in community medicine at the Post Graduate Institute of Medicine, the University of Colombo, where he received his MSc and MD in Community Medicine and was appointed as a board-certified consultant in community medicine. Based on his academic interest in zoonotic diseases and epidemiology, Dr Agampodi completed a master's of public health at Massey University, New Zealand, where his focus was on biosecurity. 

He was a pioneer member of the new department of community medicine at the Rajarata University of Sri Lanka and was appointed as the Founding Professor and Chair of the department. While at Rajarata, he was the Dean (2021-2022), chair of the ethics review committee, director of the maternal and child health research unit and the lead epidemiologist of the tropical disease research unit. Dr Agampodi has made an enduring commitment to developing research capacity in Rajarata through competitive international grants since 2010. He served as a visiting assistant professor at the University of California, San Diego, in 2011. His primary academic interest involves infectious disease epidemiology, population health and preventive medicine.
