Biography

Savion Smith, MD, is a Clinical Instructor at the Yale Child Study Center and a child and adolescent psychiatrist at Fair Haven Community Health Care. He completed his Child and Adolescent Psychiatry fellowship at Yale, where he served as Chief Fellow for the class of 2026. He previously earned his medical degree from the University of Arizona–Phoenix. He holds a bachelor’s degree in mathematics from Arizona State University and completed premedical postbaccalaureate training at Washington University in St. Louis. He also completed the Professional Program in College Admissions Advising in Schools through the University of California, Berkeley Extension.

Dr. Smith’s clinical and academic interests include school-based mental health, adolescent development, educational transitions, and psychotherapy. Through Yale’s school-based health center partnership, he provides psychiatric consultation and clinical supervision. He is particularly interested in the ways that mental health, executive functioning, academic pressure, and family expectations affect adolescents as they prepare for college and adulthood.

Dr. Smith has a longstanding commitment to supporting young people in educational and community settings. Before becoming a psychiatrist, he worked as a swim coach, mathematics tutor, and student counselor.

Outside of work, Dr. Smith enjoys roller skating, kayaking, and science-fiction and fantasy films.
