Biography

Nicholas Cormier is an Assistant Professor at Yale School of Medicine, Department of Anesthesiology where he specializes in Head & Neck Anesthesiology.

He received a Bachelor of Arts (BA) from the College of the Holy Cross (2015) in Biology and Sociology followed by his Doctor of Medicine (MD) from the University of Massachusetts Medical School (2020). He completed his anesthesiology residency (2024) and a subsequent fellowship in Head & Neck Anesthesiology (2025) at Yale School of Medicine.

He is a qualitative methodologist and his most recent work explores how new learners come to develop a sense of belongingness in the anesthesiology community of practice. He has also used the qualitative lens to evaluate how learners interpret and respond to perceived obstacles in the workplace during their training. His clinical research likewise employs qualitative methodology, where he has studied the pathways by which patients with idiopathic subglottic stenosis navigate treatment and recovery as well as how patients who have received kidney transplants redefine themselves in the face of risk and reward during the transplant process.
