Biography
Krissy graduated from Northwestern University in 2024 with a double major in Neuroscience (conc. Human Behavior and Cognition) and Biological Sciences (Human Health and Disease). As an undergraduate, she was a member of Beacon Scholars (formerly Knight Community Scholars) and recognized as a Trailblazer in the first-generation, low-income college student community. She assisted and conducted research in social psychology and educational policy at the Destin lab and served as a teaching assistant for introductory neuroscience classes. She interned in Northwestern's Graduate Program in Genetic Counseling's Summer Experiential Workshop and was inspired to pursue genetic counseling, going on to become the president and co-founder of Genetic Counseling Club. After some time away from research, she returned to work as an assistant for Northwestern's Electronic Medical Records and Genomics 4 (eMERGE4) Network, an NIH-funded multisite study focused on polygenic risk scores.
After graduating college, Krissy continued her studies at Northwestern to pursue a dual master's degree program in Genetic Counseling (MS) and Medical Humanities and Bioethics (MA). She rotated at numerous clinical sites to practice in different areas of genetic counseling: prenatal genetics at Loyola Medicine (MFM) and Endeavor Health (MFM), pediatric genetics at Rush University (general) and Lurie Children's Hospital (heme/onc), and cancer genetics at UChicago Medicine (GI). In addition, she gained insight from her non-clinical rotation in public health genomics with the Illinois Department of Public Health's Newborn Screening Program. She held positions as a graduate assistant within Northwestern's program and at UI Health. She was also selected to serve as Northwestern's Program Representative for the National society of Genetic Counselors' Student/New Grad Special Interest Group Ambassadors. Krissy has participated in several panels for prospective students in genetic counseling and dedicated her thesis project to the perceived utility of pre-genetic counseling clubs for applicants to genetic counseling programs.
As a Research Associate 2 at Yale, Krissy will contribute her perspectives in bioethics and genetic counseling to the Lucas Lab for protocols related to informed consent, building pedigrees, and providing results disclosures. She also hopes to build her knowledge base in immunogenetics and inborn errors of immunity and looks forward to collaborating with her team. When she gets home from work, Krissy looks forward to watching old movies and playing video games.
