Overview
Joe Canterino, MD, MHS, specializes in infectious diseases and medical informatics. He treats patients with chronic hepatitis C infection and also cares for patients who receive intravenous antibiotic therapy on an outpatient basis. Dr. Canterino serves as the medical director for General Infectious Diseases at the Yale Center for Infectious Diseases.
Dr. Canterino says "I chose be become an infectious diseases physician because I’ve always been fascinated by how the human body interacts with the world around it”.
His research interests include combining the fields of infectious diseases and informatics to advance our health system’s ability to deliver sustainable improvement in the care for patients with infections. For example, he developed an electronic system to track the outcomes of patients receiving outpatient intravenous antibiotic therapy.
Dr. Canterino is an assistant professor of medicine at Yale School of Medicine.
