Biography
I am an Associate Professor of Neurology and Internal Medicine at Yale School of Medicine and a board certified neurologist and primary care internist within the VA Connecticut Healthcare System, providing both specialty and general care services for Veterans with ischemic stroke across the continuum of care. After completing a dual residency in neurology and internal medicine at Yale University School of Medicine, I completed a VA Special Fellowship in Psychiatry and Neuroscience with a focus on stroke health services research and stroke epidemiology within the VA Connecticut Healthcare System, West Haven campus. I am an active investigator within the VA Precision Monitoring to Transform Care QUERI, the HSR&D Pain Research, Informatics, Multi-morbidities, and Education (PRIME), Clinical Epidemiology Research Centers, and the Center for Neuroepidemiology and Clinical Neurological Research.
As a VA HSR&D Career Development awardee with implementation science project goals of improving post-stroke risk factor management by identifying patient-, provider-, and facility-level barriers and facilitators associated with optimal cerebrovascular risk factor control, my research interests include developing and assessing theory-based cerebrovascular risk factor improvement interventions and using Lean Six Sigma/Systems Redesign approaches to improving the efficient delivery of high quality health care.
I have received several junior investigator awards through the American Heart Association/American Stroke Association, American Academy of Neurology, and the American Neurological Association. I am actively involved in several American Academy of Neurology Committees and Subcommittees, including the Government Relations Committee, Medical Economics and Management Committee, Health Services Research Subcommittee, and the Stroke Prevention and Rehabilitation Task Force. I also serve as the Veterans Health Administration liaison to the American Academy of Neurology.
I also serve as Director of Stroke Care for the VA Connecticut Healthcare System, where I oversee a robust clinical program which includes multidisciplinary stroke clinics, tele-secondary stroke prevention clinics, and high output resident/fellow stroke clinics.
