We are pleased to announce that the Task Force and Sub-Task Forces on Disparities in Eye Care has been recognized for its extraordinary work in health disparities and received the 2023 American Academy of Ophthalmology’s Secretariat Award recipient. Dr. Kristen Nwanyanwu, an Associate Professor of Ophthalmology and Visual Science as Yale, has been deeply involved in the work of this task force.
The Secretariat Award recognizes special contributions to the Academy and to ophthalmology. The Task Force and Sub-Task Force on Disparities in Eye Care has been recognized for its seminal work in developing evidence-based peer-reviewed papers on disparities in eye care, under the astute leadership of Paul P. Lee, MD, JD. Contributing members such as Dr. Nwanyanwu have enabled the Task Force and Sub-Task Forces on Disparities in Eye Care to further this important conversation.
This work was recognized by an NIH director as: “…the BEST monograph on disparities in any field I have ever read, and I have been doing this for more than 30 years. It is so comprehensive; 300 references; truly a brilliant piece. We need something like this for every field as a starting point.”
Please join us in congratulating Dr. Nwanyanwu on this achievement, as we are all very proud of her dedication to this work.
