Biography
Dae Yup Han, Ph.D., DABR, is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Therapeutic Radiology at Yale School of Medicine and a faculty member of the Yale Medical Physics Residency Program. He is board-certified in Therapeutic Medical Physics by the American Board of Radiology (DABR), with academic and clinical interests in the translational implementation of advanced brachytherapy and image-guided radiation therapy.
Dr. Han received his Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering from the University of California, San Diego, with an emphasis in medical physics. He subsequently completed a CAMPEP-accredited medical physics certificate program at the University of California, Los Angeles, followed by residency training in medical physics at the University of California, San Francisco. His academic and research background is broadly multi-disciplinary, encompassing electrical engineering, applied physics, computational modeling, and clinical radiation oncology. His experience includes both system-level research and clinical commissioning, with a particular focus on the translation of novel technologies into routine clinical practice.
He has authored numerous peer-reviewed publications and delivered invited presentations at national and international conferences on topics including intravascular brachytherapy, dynamic modulated brachytherapy, and PET-guided radiation therapy. He actively collaborates with academic, clinical, and industry partners to advance innovation in radiation oncology.

Overview
Dr. Han’s current research focuses on the development and clinical translation of technologies that integrate imaging, computation, and radiation delivery. Areas of active investigation include:
- Development of multi-modality image-guided target tracking systems for adaptive radiotherapy, utilizing PET, MRI, and X-ray.
- Design of intravascular brachytherapy treatment planning systems, incorporating IVUS/OCT-based imaging and personalized dosimetric modeling.
- Development of novel brachytherapy applicators featuring directional dose modulating shielding systems and strategies for clinical implementation.
These efforts represent a cross-disciplinary approach to advancing radiation oncology through innovation at the intersection of engineering, physics, and medicine.
