Yonca Arat, MD

Dr. Yonca Arat is an American board-certified ophthalmologist specializing in ophthalmic plastic and reconstructive surgery. Dr. Arat earned her medical degree from Hacettepe University Medical School and completed her residency in ophthalmology in the same institution before pursuing further training in the United States, where she completed ophthalmology residency and a fellowship in ophthalmic plastic and reconstructive surgery at Baylor College of Medicine in Houston, TX. She served as an Assistant Professor at the University of Wisconsin before returning to Turkey, where she became an Associate Professor at Baskent University and later joined Hacettepe University Hospital as a full-time professor. For the past eight years, she has led the Oculoplastic Surgery service and served as a Professor of Ophthalmology at Hacettepe University Hospital in Ankara, Turkey, a premier medical center recognized for producing many leaders in ophthalmology across the United States and Western Europe. Dr. Arat has given many invited lectures, written book chapters in oculoplastic surgery, published numerous scientific papers in peer-reviewed journals, and made over 50 presentations in international meetings worldwide. She received the Achievement Award from the American Academy of Ophthalmology. Dr. Yonca Arat has assumed the position of Chief of Oculoplastic Surgery at Yale Ophthalmology, where she leads a distinguished division focused on a diverse range of procedures. Her expertise includes the management of eyelid and orbital pathologies, ptosis repair, blepharoplasty, lacrimal surgeries, facial trauma reconstruction, and the treatment of thyroid eye disease in both pediatric and adult patients.
