Biography

Dr. Zhao’s Website: www.weixingzhao.github.io/

Dr. Weixing Zhao is a molecular biologist whose research focuses on DNA repair, genome stability, R-loop regulation, immune regulation, and cancer biology. He earned his B.S. and Ph.D. from Peking University in China and completed his postdoctoral training at Yale University, where he studied homology-directed repair of DNA double-strand breaks mediated by the BRCA1 and BRCA2 tumor suppressor pathways. Dr. Zhao is currently a faculty member in the Department of Biochemistry and Structural Biology and the Greehey Children’s Cancer Research Institute. His laboratory investigates BRCA1/2 tumor suppressor networks and their roles in DNA damage response, DNA repair, ubiquitylation, transcriptional regulation, R-loop regulation, replication stress, and immune regulation. By defining the molecular mechanisms through which BRCA1/2-associated pathways maintain genome stability and shape tumor-relevant biological responses, and how pathogenic mutations disrupt these processes in cancer and other diseases, his work aims to provide a mechanistic foundation for the development of new therapeutic strategies and precision medicine approaches.
