Biography

Sanwal Mehmood, MD, is a Postdoctoral Research Fellow in the Section of Digestive Diseases at Yale School of Medicine. His research focuses on metabolic dysfunction-associated steatotic liver disease (MASLD) and chronic liver disease, with particular attention to the determinants of disease progression and clinical outcomes.

His work applies clinical and translational methods to large-scale health data, including electronic health records, administrative claims, and genomic datasets. He is especially interested in how genetic, metabolic, and clinical factors interact to shape the course of liver disease, and in the use of real-world evidence to address questions of direct clinical relevance.

Dr. Mehmood earned his medical degree from Allama Iqbal Medical College in Lahore, Pakistan. At Yale, he is building expertise in hepatology, clinical epidemiology, and data-driven investigation, with the goal of a career as a physician-scientist in academic medicine.
