Matthew O'Brien, MD

Matthew O'Brien, MD, is an instructor in pediatrics (cardiology) at Yale School of Medicine. He earned his medical degree from the Frank H. Netter School of Medicine at Quinnipiac University, then completed his pediatric residency and pediatric cardiology fellowship at Yale New Haven Children's Hospital. He is currently pursuing a Master of Health Science in Clinical Informatics and Data Science at Yale to complement his clinical training with expertise in large-scale clinical data management and genetic analysis. Supported by an American Heart Association postdoctoral fellowship and mentored by Dr. Martina Brueckner, his research focuses on how genetic variants affect clinical outcomes in hypoplastic left heart syndrome, using the Pediatric Cardiac Genomics Consortium cohort. Alongside his research, he is active in clinical informatics and medical education. Outside of work, he enjoys spending time outside with his partner and their two Samoyed dogs.
