Biography

Dr. Irbaz Hameed is currently an integrated cardiothoracic surgery resident at Yale. In addition to presenting at different conferences, he has authored several book chapters and over hundred peer-reviewed publications in high-impact journals, including The Lancet, JAMA, Circulation, and the Journal of the American College of Cardiology. He serves as associate editor for the Journal of Cardiac Surgery and Frontiers in Cardiovascular Medicine and is an editorial board member and reviewer for multiple peer-reviewed journals. His translational research is in neurocardiology where he studies organ recovery after warm ischemia using single-cell and spatial multi-omics profiling technologies, with a particular emphasis on the heart-brain axis. His clinical research centers on cardiac surgical outcomes and the methodology of randomized controlled trials, observational studies, and meta-analyses. Among other positions, he currently serves as President of the Yale Residents’ and Fellows’ Senate, and is an executive of the Society of Thoracic Surgeons and Thoracic Surgery Residents’ Association.
