Emily Garateix

Emily Garateix is a Postgraduate Associate with the Emergency Medicine Research Growth Experience (EMERGE) program at Yale School of Medicine. Originally from Puerto Rico and Miami, she graduated from Florida International University with a B.S. in Biological Sciences. Throughout college, Emily worked as an orthopedic medical assistant and later conducted research at Baptist Health, studying Achilles tendon ruptures and outcomes of minimally invasive surgical techniques. Separately, she contributed to a peer-reviewed publication on congenital short metacarpals. Emily is also the co-founder and former Chair of Pick Up For Cancer, a nonprofit combining environmental sustainability with cancer fundraising. She joined EMERGE to expand her clinical research experience in an interdisciplinary environment and contribute to improving patient care. Emily aspires to become a physician and serve diverse and underserved communities. Outside of medicine, she enjoys traveling, sports, cooking, and movies.
