Arman Afrasiyabi, PhD

Arman Afrasiyabi is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Neurosurgery at Yale University. His research focuses on developing interpretable multimodal deep-learning, foundation-model, and time-series methods to extract meaningful insights from complex neural and biomedical data. He designs representation-learning frameworks that integrate and align multiple modalities to enable robust decoding of brain activity across individuals, cognitive tasks, and recording environments. He is also one of the scientists on the Aligning Research to Impact Autism (ARIA) project.

Before joining the Yale faculty, Arman held research appointments in the Departments of Computer Science, Genetics, and Neurosurgery at Yale. During his postdoctoral training, he worked with Professor Smita Krishnaswamy in Yale Computer Science, and during his subsequent role as an Associate Research Scientist in Neurosurgery, he worked with Sterling Professor Murat Günel. He previously conducted research at Université Laval and Mila–Quebec AI Institute, where he completed his doctoral research at the intersection of artificial intelligence, representation learning, and meta-learning.
