Biography
Dr. Amber W. Childs is an Assistant Professor of Psychiatry in the Yale School of Medicine and a member of the Medical Staff at Yale New Haven Hospital. Dr. Childs is the Director of Training for the Doctoral Internship in Clinical and Community Psychology within the YSM Psychology Section where she works together with the Chief of Psychology and Executive Training Committee to ensure state-of-the art training. She also serves as the primary advisor for the YSM doctoral fellow within the YNHH Adolescent Services placement. Clinically, Dr. Childs specializes in the treatment of adolescents, young adults and families and is currently embedded within Yale New Haven Psychiatric Hospital's adolescent intensive outpatient programs where she currently serves youth who suffer from chronic and acute psychiatric illness. Within ambulatory services more broadly her leadership includes co-development and implementation of clinical re-design strategy, including design and deployment of telehealth services alongside YNHH Psychiatry and Behavioral Health leadership. Dr. Childs is at the forefront of the ambulatory service's overarching measurement-based care (MBC) strategy, and has supported comprehensive development and execution of MBC within Adolescent services in particular. Within adolescent services, Dr. Childs' work includes implementation and evaluation of evidence-based clinical psychotherapy programming, staff education and consultation and provision of direct clinical services. Empirically, Dr. Childs is interested in broader evaluation of, as well as specific psychosocial correlates to (e.g., parent-child relations) treatment outcomes among high-risk youth, especially as they inform opportunities for quality enhancement of care. Dr. Childs is a member-at-large of the Committee for Diversity and Inclusion within the YSM psychology section.
