Biography

James Newman, MD, is an Assistant Professor of Medicine (Medical Oncology and Hematology) and cares for patients with non-malignant hematology disorders at Smilow Cancer Hospital in Waterford, as well as patients with thoracic malignancies at Smilow Cancer Hospital in Guilford.

Dr. Newman joins Yale from NYU Langone’s Perlmutter Cancer Center where he was a hematologist/oncologist with a focus on hematology and thoracic oncology. Dr. Newman received his medical degree from SUNY Upstate Medical University and completed his residency at Zucker School of Medicine at Hofstra/Northwell. He then completed a fellowship in Hematology and Medical Oncology at Northwell Health Cancer Institute where he served as chief fellow. His prior research is in tumor mutational burdenand correlation to response in immunotherapy, and he has led multiple research projects that were published in Lung Cancer Management and Cancer Medicine Journal.
