Biography

Zafer Akman is a resident physician in the Department of Internal Medicine at Yale University. He received his medical degree from Istanbul University–Cerrahpasa in 2022 and previously worked as a Postdoctoral Associate at Yale University, where he contributed to both clinical and translational research initiatives.

Dr. Akman's research interests center around improving risk prediction, treatment utilization, and shared decision-making for older adults at risk for or living with cardiovascular disease. He has been involved in studies addressing age-related disparities in cardiovascular care, clinical risk stratification, and optimizing management strategies for aging populations.

During his time at Yale, Dr. Akman also gained experience in basic science research in nephrology, where he worked on extracellular matrix-regulating metalloproteinases in polycystic kidney disease.

Outside of medicine, Dr. Akman enjoys basketball, tennis, and exploring the New Haven area’s outdoor spaces and restaurant scene.
