While the World Language classroom is an academic space that easily lends itself to the inclusion of diverse cultures, there is still an urgent need to be intentional about the representation of Black and Indigenous Voices within these spaces. From the physical space, to the classroom culture, to the materials, perspectives and experiences of Black and Indigenous individuals are often missing from the World Language classroom. The purpose of this session is to provide participants with a wide variety of resources as well as tools for self-reflection and lesson development. The session begins with the theoretical foundation of decolonization and moves to the practical application of resources and strategies to be used in the classroom.
