Biography

As a first-generation Latino, academia and research was completely foreign to me. Despite my upbringing, science was always intriguing. It was in college that I changed my life around and was inspired to learn all things science. I am most proficient in chemistry, mathematics, physics, and biology. My passion for science, teaching, and helping others is what I am most known for. It is my passion that fuels the tenacity that got me this far. My dream is to become a great scientist and professor to push boundaries and inspire future generations. I am interested in understanding the underlying causes of disease and finding innovative ways to approach them. For my PhD, I am invested in bridging our understanding of the interactions between the nervous system and immune system in the context of neurodegenerative diseases like Alzheimer's and Parkinson's disease, dementia, multiple sclerosis, paraneoplastic syndrome, etc.

Overview

Elucidating the interaction between human neurons and immune cells in neurodegeneration, autoimmune neurological disorders, and other neuropathologies. To study this, we culture human postmortem brain tissue, patient-derived iPSCs, and neurons. In parallel, we are developing mouse models and diagnostics using Phage Immunoprecipitation Sequencing (PhIP-Seq).
