Biography

Joshua Chen is a Yale undergraduate majoring in mechanical engineering with a passion for addressing global health challenges through innovative mechanical solutions. He is particularly interested in designing technologies that improve healthcare delivery in low-resource settings. Inspired by his experiences shadowing at the University of Global Health Equity in Rwanda, he is committed to developing practical tools that expand access to care and enhance patient outcomes. Joshua has worked on a rheumatic heart disease screening project using ultrasound technology and is currently collaborating with his lab peers on designing a braided expandable reamer device to treat avascular necrosis (AVN). He values collaboration and on-the-ground engagement to ensure that these devices are effectively tailored to their intended contexts.

Outside academics, Joshua enjoys traveling, playing soccer, and running, as well as spending time with his suitemates and family. He also plays the clarinet for fun in the band and orchestra.
