Biography
Dr. Isis I. Burgos‑Chapman, M.D., FAPA, FAAGP, is an adult and geriatric psychiatrist dedicated to improving mental health care for older adults, advancing dementia research, and expanding access to high‑quality care for Veterans. She currently serves as Program Director for the VA National Expert Consultation & Specialized Services–Mental Health (NEXCSS‑MH) and as the Geriatrics Lead for the Veterans Integrated Service Network (VISN) 1 Clinical Resource Hub at VA Connecticut Healthcare System.
Since joining the VA in 2021, Dr. Burgos‑Chapman has played a central role in developing and implementing tele‑geriatric mental health programs across New England, with a focus on reaching rural and underserved Veterans. Her leadership in NEXCSS‑MH supports national efforts to strengthen specialized mental health consultation services throughout the VA. Dr. Burgos‑Chapman is also an Assistant Clinical Professor of Psychiatry at Yale University and an Associate Leader for the Outreach and Engagement Core of the Yale Alzheimer’s Disease Research Center. Prior to her tenure at the VA, she served as Medical Director of Adult Behavioral Health and as a staff psychiatrist at the Cornell Scott–Hill Health Center in New Haven, where she provided community‑based psychiatric care and contributed to behavioral health program development.
Dr. Burgos‑Chapman completed her Geriatric Psychiatry Fellowship at Yale University and her Psychiatry Residency at Boston University Medical Center, where she served as Chief Resident. She earned her M.D. from the Warren Alpert Medical School of Brown University and holds a dual B.A. in Human Biology and Hispanic Studies from Brown University.
Dr. Burgos-Chapman has received multiple national and regional honors, including induction as a Fellow of the American Psychiatric Association and the American Association for Geriatric Psychiatry, and selection as an AAGP Future Leaders Fellow. Dr. Burgos‑Chapman has presented her work at national conferences, delivered numerous grand rounds and educational sessions, and remains actively engaged in professional organizations and community service initiatives.
