Biography

Dr. Erik Zorrilla is a Postdoctoral Associate in the Department of Neurology at Yale University School of Medicine and a member of the Yale Center for the Science of Cannabis and Cannabinoids (YC-SCAN2).

He earned his PhD in Neuroscience at The University of Iowa under Dr. Andrew F. Russo. The focus of his doctoral research was to investigate the effects of cannabinoids on central and peripheral mechanisms underlying migraine pathophysiology. Importantly, findings from this work helped secure a grant to support a clinical trial for a cannabinoid-based migraine medication in collaboration with Delphian Therapeutics.

At Yale, he is conducting clinical research under the mentorship of Dr. Emanuelle A. D. Schindler and Dr. Deepak C. D’Souza. His research interests seek to understand how cannabinoids and psychedelics may serve as novel therapeutic approaches for neurological and psychiatric disorders. Outside of research he enjoys traveling, and training Brazilian Jiu jitsu.
